Guest Blogging: Things to know

Alright, so what are the things to know for an Guest Blogger and what to take attention on? Probably the we can find ton of answers to this question, but here we are going to highlight some of the most important of this answers.

I think the best point to get started is the very begining…as a blogger looking for contributions with other bloggers, what are the ways you use getting the gigs?

Watch for blogs in the niches that you like to write about and look for the opportunities. If the blog owner mentions that they are busy with family or business, or they are looking for submissions etc, send them an email and specify your offer. Most probably, you dont know the blog owner…include some short bio outlining why you’d fit with their blog (don’t put ton of irrelevant info). Include a few links to your own blog and some examples of work that you have done that relate to their topics to illustrate your style and experiences. Also maybe include some headlines/titles of posts or category that you’d like to write for them to show that you’ve already given it some thought.

Another way to get the blog owner attention is to write sample post and something that s/he can use right away. Pick some category within the niche that they cover and write a medium sized article, then invite the blog owner to use it. So lets say, you’ve got the guest blogging gig – perhaps its for a week while the blog owner is away, perhaps it’s just a one off slot or maybe you got an offer from the blog owner to become fulltime author (this is even better)…how to approach it?

Look for some gaps that the blog may have:

One of the reasons that the blog owner may offer you ongoing guest blogging is the new experiences set you may bring to the blog readers. Example, BestBlogBox attempt to find bloggers who will add something unique and different to the already existing blog topics and categories base. As an blog contributor you can really get on the radar of the visitors by plugging a gap in the topic of the niche.

Be yourself, but attention:

Another point to consider as a guest blogger is to show respect to the culture already established on the blog you’re posting on. Recommend is that you write in your own voice and style, but  not to take the blog in a totaly different direction. While some readers won’t mind a radical change some will react against it and the blog owner could come back to a disgruntled readership. To avoid missunderstandings, best is to do a little homework on the blog that you’ll be writing. The articles will be better received both by the blog owner as well as the visitors by finding answering some of the following questions before you start writing:

  • what style does the blog owner (or other contributors) write in?
  • what is the reach for the topic that is usually covered?
  • which posts or categories get most comments?
  • what are the unwritten rules of the blog?

Being well  informed in mind, you will be in a better position to write something that meets the visitors needs of that blog. Dont see guest blogging as opportunity for you to get new readers and promote yourself…dont forget the reason that we talked about guest blogging being a good thing was, that it was a win win win situation where you as the guest blogger might gain exposure but where the blog owner and the visitors need to come away from the interaction better off too. Being a good blog contributor is same as being a good guest in any way…adding genuine value to the blog you are writing on, will gain new fans with readers and the blog owner and you may find yourself on agreement for ongoing contribution.

Well, as stated at the begining of this post, there are many answers we can find and go with, but highligghts are the points listed above. If you are interested to contribute to BestBlogBox and gain some exposure, you are very much welcome to join us…all you have to do is check our contributors page and contact us.
